The Uranian Phalanstery, a utopian organization and communal house of worship for artists, purchased the two-building compound in 1974 and utilized the space as a church, printing press, Tibetan tattoo parlor, studio, and a home to Richard Tyler's widow, Dorothea Tyler, and her protegee, Mehdi Matin. The dilapidated buildings contain art of infinite media including floor-to-ceiling paintings, prints and publications from the in-house press, sculptures by Richard Tyler's host of famous artist friends like Claes Oldenburg, and a temple that functions as a large scale piece of installation art.
