This is the current housing of African Lodge No. 459, the first African Freemason Lodge in the United States. The lodge received its charter from the Premier Grand Lodge of England in 1784 after the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts excluded the 15 African American men of African Lodge No. 1. The man in charge of gaining this charter from England was Prince Hall, the founder of "Black Freemasonry".
