Boston Airport was originally opened with the intent to be a military installation for the Massachusetts Air Guard and the Army Air Corps. In 1927 the first commercial flight left the airport bound for New York. Today the largest chunk of East Boston belongs to the airport. In 1956 the airport officially had its name changed to that of a Spanish-American War hero General Edward Lawrence Logan, who originally hailed from South Boston. Lots of movies have been shot here, the most recent being “The Departed.”
