This has got to be the only restaurant in Austin with under 20 items on the menu. And that includes the tea, soda and T-Shirt.

The Original Hoffbrau was opened just as Prohibition was repealed in 1934, allowing the new owner of a boarded-up feed store to open it at a beer joint. Keg beer was a novelty, and a nickel bought you a glass of beer and some free coldcuts and crackers.

When times got better, the owners were encouraged by their customers to start serving steaks. Very little has changed, 'cause if is ain't broke you don't fix it!

Enjoy their steaks, salads, chunky fried potatoes and Butterkrust bread. 'Cause that's Texas, and that's how it's gonna be at the Hoffbrau. The owner and much of the staff go way back, so check it out and become a bit of Austin's history.
