The Atlanta Zoo began its life as a roving circus, after the manager made a few bad purchases, the circus found itself in Atlanta. Realizing that the circus was running bankrupt, the manager gathered up all the cash and made off in the middle of the night with it, leaving the menagerie and performers to pick up the pieces. The animals from this menagerie became the animals of the first Zoo of Atlanta.
